How to support her without overstepping?

I (28F) have a friend (26F) I’ve known since March. I’m very fond of her and would like to know her better, but we’re both pretty shy. Neither of us are big on texting—we prefer to talk in person. She’s also super busy, so I usually see her only about once a month.

But lately I’ve been attending her band concerts every week, and last night was the last one. She seemed really down when I talked to her, like she has seasonal depression and is dreading the fall (she wasn’t explicit about it being depression or anything, she was just very crestfallen and said she gets nervous when the weather changes). I’m not the best at talking about negative/sad things with her because I’m scared of making her sadder, especially since I don’t know her that well. So I kind of glazed over it? Which I know isn’t good. I could barely talk because I was so anxious about seeing her so sad.

Anyway, I want to make things right. I want to tell her that she has friends who care about her and that she’ll have things to do in the winter with us, but I don’t know if that’s helpful. I also feel stupid for not saying it in person, given that she’s not big on texting and sometimes doesn’t respond. Should I just leave it be until I see her next? Or, if not, what do I say that won’t be overstepping?
