Barnes & Noble is one of the worst options for consuming books
Barnes and Noble is so expensive and has become a store with such a shill for the mass-market paperback tropy ya romance novels that are being pumped out faster than being consumed. If you shop there over somewhere less expensive like Amazon out of mortality by “supporting physical bookstores”, know It’s just another insidious chain that overcharges you.
Books are so ubiquitous I’d argue buying used and using the library is the most ethical way to do it. But I understand wanting to gift or own a new book, so why not go to a local store for the same cost if you can? Wouldn’t you rather support the book scene by giving your ludicrous $18 for a paperback to those who care about books
Edit 1. I don’t know how some of you got that I use Amazon out of this after I said the best way to consume books is the library, thrifting and local stores. I also called it an insidious chain that overcharges you, comparing it to B&N. I get amazons worse, I don’t use it. My point was I’ve heard B&N users say they shop there just because it’s not Amazon
Edit 2. I get the point about nitpicking the romance genre. I could’ve made my point without that
Annnd another edit 3. There are more local bookstores than Barnes & Nobles in the United States. And significantly, to a scale of 10 times, more library. I find it odd someone would say you are privileged to have a library, while being able to buy a book new and having access to a B&N With this being said, there are areas where B&N are the only option, I am aware. It isn’t the worse option if it’s your only option. #conversation source
