People should stop using the word 'entitled' to describe…

People should stop using the word 'entitled' to describe people who are not actually entitled to anything.

The word 'entitled' means to be legally or legitimately due something. This is how it is used in legal documents, for example. These days, people constantly refer to people who *believe* that they deserve something as 'entitled'. I would guess that people originally used this term to describe people who were actually entitled to something, like trust fund kids, and who wielded that entitlement, but then people just started applying it to everyone who acted as if they were. I know this is an unpopular opinion because every time I've mentioned it to someone, they've acted like I'm crazy. Now the dictionary has definitions for 'entitled' like "Behaving as if you deserve special treatment, rewards, or attention more than others do, without earning it", which people throw back at me as an argument that this usage is valid. But this is like using the word 'literally' when you mean 'figuratively'. And now I hear government programs disregarded as 'entitlements', when that's exactly what they are according to the original meaning, but people seem to automatically attribute the new meaning, which has a bad connotation, to the term.
