I feel like you’d appreciate this just as I do

Sirach 3:21-24
“Do not seek what is beyond your power nor search into what is beyond your ability.
Reflect on what you are commanded to do; there is no need for you to know things that are hidden.
Do not tire yourself in resolving useless questions since the knowledge you already have goes beyond human understanding.
For many have been led astray by personal theories and false pretensions has undermined reason.”

Knowing this passage since college? It's even more relevant now, honestly. Back then, the pressure was all about grades and landing the "perfect" job. Now? It's a whole new level of comparison game – social media highlight reels, constant chatter about promotions, "hustle culture" screaming at me from every corner of the internet. Seeing people I know – people I went to school with – achieving what seems like overnight success… it can be crushing.

That's where Sirach comes in. It's like a quiet voice cutting through the noise, reminding me to define success on my terms. The line "Do not seek what is beyond your power" isn't about giving up on ambition; it's about recognizing that I can't control other people's timelines or their perceived victories. Trying to measure myself against their yardsticks is a recipe for misery. Instead, it pushes me to ask, " What am I capable of? What's my path? "

The phrase "Reflect on what you are commanded to do" shifts from just fulfilling assignments to a deeper sense of purpose. What are the actual things I'm committed to – my values, my relationships, my passions? The real, tangible things that I care about, not the abstract ideas of success that society tries to sell me.

"Useless questions" are everywhere now. Am I good enough? Why haven't I achieved this yet? What are other people thinking about my career? Sirach gives me permission to shut down those toxic thought loops. It reminds me that most of those questions have no answer, and obsessing over them just drains my energy. Instead, I need to pour that energy into the things I can control: honing my skills, building meaningful connections, and showing up authentically.

The last bit about false pretensions? It's even more vital now. So many people curate these perfect online personas, and it's easy to start believing that everyone else has it all figured out. This passage serves as a constant reminder to stay grounded in reality, to acknowledge my own struggles and imperfections, and to resist the urge to put on a false front. It’s ok to be turtle-paced if that’s what feels right.

So, yeah, I still love this passage. It's not just a nice thought; it's a practical tool for navigating the pressures of real life. It helps me stay focused, stay authentic, and find satisfaction in my own journey, regardless of what anyone else is doing. It’s the antidote to comparisonitis and a reminder that my worth isn't tied to some external definition of success.

Been through a lot and due to many life setbacks . I used to asked so many whys , used to do things that i thought would fill the emptiness , used to set goals according to what the world are feeding us to do. that i thought would make me happy but eventually break me more.. Until such time that i seek Gods presence and i began to understand life better but pain , struggles , self doubt , uncertainties does not end there . The process of understanding life .. myself was aint easy you bet.. but little by little .. i see progress..and i realized that .life should'nt be perfect for us to be happy. .You are getting there D and i am truly happy for you.😘♥️
