Removing ammonia stain on shellac finish
My cat had a very atypical mishap of peeing on my cherry blanket chest that I had finished with \~10 coats of shellac. By the time I noticed it, it was fully dry and left a reddish brown blotch on the top of the blanket chest that smelled like urine when you get close enough to it.
Is there any realistic way of removing this stain that doesn't involve sanding the surface? I can reapply finish if needed but I'm really not looking forward to having a salmon colored spot in the middle of a beautiful aged cherry color. If that's what has to be done, I may just leave it since its at least coincidentally the same reddish brown color as a mineral streak only \~12 inches away from it.
