Backpacking to Ujjain during Mahakal darshan – surprisingly smooth travel experience
I recently did a short backpacking trip to Ujjain, mainly to visit Mahakaleshwar Temple. Took an overnight train from Indore and reached early morning around 5:30 AM.
Getting around the city was easier than I expected. Since I had a tight schedule for darshan and local sightseeing (Kal Bhairav, Ram Ghat, etc.), I avoided autos and tried a pre-booked cab option instead. It actually saved a lot of time compared to negotiating fares on the spot.
Weather was quite hot during the day (around 34°C), but mornings near the ghats were peaceful and worth waking up early for. The city has a very spiritual vibe, especially during sunrise aarti.
Trip was short (2 days), but honestly felt complete. I’d definitely go again, maybe during a festival next time.
