Anyone else desperate to get back to work after Christmas with the kids?
We’ve had two weeks off over Christmas with the kids and I feel awful admitting this, but I am *desperate* to get back to work.
I don’t recognise myself lately and I hate the person this has turned me into. I feel like I spend all day telling the kids off, and then shouting when the telling off doesn’t work. And it’s not even over petty stuff — it’s over things you *have* to say no to.
“No, you can’t have candy canes for breakfast. Put that back. How did you even find it?” “No, you can’t go outside in your pyjamas — it’s minus ten!” “STOP THROWING MILK ON THE FLOOR.”
By the end of the day I feel like this worn-out, miserable mess of a person who is constantly snapping, and I hate that for my kids and for myself.
My 2-year-old has gone completely feral. Leaving the house takes over an hour because she refuses to get dressed, won’t put shoes on, runs away laughing when I try to get her coat on, or starts unpacking the change bag as I’m trying to leave. Every transition is a battle. I know she's being a normal 2 year old but good God it's exhausting.
My 4-year-old feels like a tiny dictator at the moment. It’s a constant, unceasing stream of demands. “Mummy can I have a juice?” “Mummy can I have a sandwich?” “Mummy can I play with the marble run?” (which is put away so my 2-year-old doesn’t eat marbles) “Mummy can I have this?” “Mummy can I have that?” It feels like it shouldn't even be possible to make 40 demands in a single minute but some how he's managing it!
I honestly feel like if I get asked for one more thing my head might explode like something out of a horror movie.
The weather’s been awful so we’ve been stuck inside more than usual, and my husband and I are both completely tapped out. I’ve never felt so relieved at the thought of going back to work.
Does anyone else feel like this? Is this just a brutal age/phase? I don't know what's wrong with us that we can't cope. #relationships source
