🚴 Tadej Pogačar won the opening stage of the 2026 Vuelta a España, edging Ethan Hayter by 0.09 seconds in Monaco’s 9.4km individual time trial to take the first red jersey.
Both riders finished in 10 minutes 57 seconds, averaging 51.5km/h. Josh Tarling was four seconds back in third after the short, technical route through Monaco.
The result gives Pogačar an early overall lead in the three-week race as he pursues the one Grand Tour missing from his record. He has already won the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia.
The 81st Vuelta began outside Spain for the seventh time, and Monaco became the first town to host starts of all three Grand Tours. The race next heads toward Manosque in France. 🟥
