a. What is it that you do?
I am a systems engineer and graduated in 2003. Over the years, I have had many jobs. I worked in a cyber café while studying for my degree, but I had a run of bad luck and lost my first job in 2005. For five years, I worked in a small film production company (weddings, anniversaries, graduations, etc.), I worked as a camera assistant, cameraman, and even editor.
In 2011, I returned to work in my field at a small company. I supervise the installation of equipment, communications antennas, cybercafés, and communications boards, although for the past few years, we have been dedicating almost 90% of our time to providing maintenance and services for the equipment we have already installed.
b. What do you love most about it?
I'll be honest, for me it's just a job. In college, I made a bad decision. I wanted to study sports journalism. I was good at writing and knew a lot about sports, but in the end, I studied systems engineering thinking I would make more money. Now I'm old, poor, and doing a job that I'm not passionate about in the least.
c. How does it make a difference in someone's life?
Although the practical part of my career (programming and networks) is where we have the most expertise, by chance I have always worked much more in equipment supervision and installation. Honestly, I can't say that it changes anyone's life.
But I fondly remember the five years I worked at the film company. Once, a large company hired us to film a group of their employees visiting an indigenous community. The response from the people in that community was fabulous. They were excited and treated us like family. It was a very good work experience that meant something to that community.
