Besides some niche ÄÍ features, smartphones are still exactly the same as they were 5 years ago. The physical build, OS and mobile camera technology has long been as good as they're gonna get, and there is no reason for brands to come up with new phones with "new features" anymore, besides $$$.
I am a very tech-savvy person working in computer science and I use my phone for loads of different stuff that people usually do with PC:s, but I honestly don't do anything with my 2025 model that I couldn't do with my previous 2018 model. The OS is pretty much the same with some polishing, and the hardware is also pretty much the same in the point of view of an average user, including the camera quality. Of course this phone has some niche modern ÄÍ features, but they are a quite useless trend for me and I'd argue for most people, and I could've gotten them on my old phone as well if I've updated the OS, which I didn't do for a few years.
Personally speaking, only better thing about this phone is the bigger storage, and that was also available in 2018 if I had paid more.
i have a Samsung S25 256Gb and it is currently selling for 600€ here, and next year they'll most probably release Samsung S26 with a 1000€ launch price, and I don't believe even for second that it will have 400€ worth of improved features compared to this one.
If you think 100% objectively without the point of just wanting to have the newest model at all times and feeling nice when you do (which is okay, it's your money after all), nowadays the only reason you would need to buy a new phone to replace your previous one (assuming it has been released after 2020, and in some cases even before that) is if your old one is broken beyond repair, and that is exactly what happened to me as I smashed it in pieces by dropping it between my car and the car door. If this weren't to happen, I would've been very happy to use it for 5 more years if it was up to me.
And this goes for both iPhones and Androids, but truth be told I've seen more of this on the Android side that everyone wants to have the newest and nicest Samsung or Pixel. My friends who are iPhone users tend to hang on to their 12-14 models.
