Comics on the rise

Obviously anecdotes are not data, but I did have an interesting conversation yesterday with a friend who owns a comic shop (in the UK)

He said he’s been ridiculously busy the last few months, maybe the busiest he’s ever been. In the 90s he was selling a lot but it was multiples of the same few titles to the same few people. He now was lots of people of all demographics buying all different types of comics. He gets a lot of kids and teenagers - I said that when I first started going into his shop in the early 2000s I was usually the youngest person there (in my early 20s) and I never saw kids buying comics (there were hardly any comics aimed at kids either). So that can only be a positive for the long term health of the medium.

He did pick out two titles, Absolute Batman and Invincible, that are insanely popular at the moment. We also discussed Absolute Martian Manhunter, and he said previous MM series would sell 3-4 copies a month but AMM is shifting 30-40 a month.
