People Care Too Much About Book to Movie Adaptation Being Perfect.

To be clear, I 100% get wanting a book adaptation to be good. That is the bare minimum. But I have been seeing a lot of people expect a 1:1 translation where every single detail makes it in, and that just is not how adaptations work.

Books and movies or shows are completely different formats. Some things have to be cut, combined, or changed to actually work on screen. People go in with sky high expectations for a scene for scene adaptation, then get disappointed when it is not exactly what they expected.

Obviously there are exceptions. There are genuinely awful adaptations out there. A good example is The Last Airbender live action movie. They didn’t even pronounce the main character’s name correctly. That’s not even an exaggeration.

You can hold whatever opinion about it obviously. But in my opinion, some people would benefit from a lowering their expectations a little bit. It’s never gonna be everything that the original media was. If the show/movie left something out then you still have the book.
