Last winter, a leak developed where the main water line connects to the house. An entire month's worth of water leaked before the problem was noticed. I had someone replace the line all the way to the meter.
This spring following heavy rain, there is water leaking from a tiny gap where the water line comes into the basement. Also there is a small wet spot about a foot below that. Water continues to drip through 1-2 days after rain ends. This is an area of the basement that was completely dry before work was done.
The plumber swears he sealed the outside where he dug. It's not hard to imagine the trench the plumber dug is riddled with voids. The plumber recommended hiring someone to professionally seal the gap from inside, but it seems to me the real issue is with the void.
Is sealing the gap the way to go? Is there a way to address the void? Is there any value in waiting to see if the soil settles this summer after the heavy clay dries out?
