I ordered windows from a local company to me, and am paying a pretty penny to get them built and installed. My invoice is for ten windows including one sliding patio door.
After signing, I was trying with the idea of upgrading the main floor (two windows and sliding door) windows to laminated glass for security purposes, I was quoted and additional $5K which sounded insane. The sales guy for the window company told me that it was that expensive because the glass needs to be sent to a third party company and laminated, not done in house. They also told me that both inner and outer panes were laminated, but instead of going laminated they offered to upgrade me to triple pane at no additional cost.
My question is:
Is it possible or worth it to upgrade triple pane windows to laminated for security purposes? I still do want the peace of mind that comes with security rated windows with the increase of break-ins and robberies, plus the advantage of having them in the event of a resale. Is it possible to only laminated the outer glass pane?
