In order for me to get around people better, I need to…

In order for me to get around people better, I need to learn to take everything, even myself, a lot less seriously. But so far, it's very difficult, so I want to know how to get through it.

Apparently my being so tense all the time inhibits me from seeing the best way forward or the bigger picture, and especially in social situations. I can admit that's true, in say, gaming or work. But it's just not that obvious when interacting with people gets thrown in the mix.

I imagine one bringing out their vulnerabilities, insecurities and all their baggage, along with willingly placing themselves in spots where in serious contexts could end very terribly, all loke it's nothing is like them casting away all their safety nets and hurling themselves into this sea of social uncertainty, where I can imagine myself dying in a most horrible way. Seems like it's that little death they're craving for too, the kind I'm just as afraid as I am with real death, both with me being very uncertain on what goes on the other side. Somehow people also learn the art of applying an intricate coat of paint to this voluntary precariousness. If we're going down, we're going down pretty. But no, it's still dangerous and painful even with how many layers of paint.

It's almost terrifying knowing all this, I think I shed a tear once even thinking about it. How is it that it's this difficult for me to get all of this.

Taking things less seriously is a skill that improves with small daily experiments, like deliberately making a silly mistake on purpose in a low-stakes moment. Have you tried any specific techniques yet?
