The Trial of the Seven: What medieval trial by combat, Foucault, and a fictional world tell us about how societies manufacture truth.
The institutions that are supposed to produce truth -- courts, trials, legal processes -- have always been vulnerable to capture by whoever has the most power. Medieval Europe knew this, which is why they outsourced verdicts to God. And we think we've moved on; but Foucault wasn't so sure.
So this video uses the Trial of Seven from HBO's A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms as an example of what happens when the machinery of truth-production turns against the people who built it. #science
