Route 66 turns 100 next year. I mapped every diner, motel and roadside attraction still alive on it, and made the whole 2,199 mile drive scrollable

My family is obsessed with old road trips, so ahead of the centennial I spent the summer mapping what is actually still open on Route 66. Not the nostalgia version, the real one: 280 towns, about 2,400 places to eat, 1,300 motels, from the Loop in Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier.

Then I built a way to drive it from your couch: a 3D map with real elevation where you scroll (or swipe west) and every town lights up as you pass, with what is actually there right now. There is a garage where you pick your car. One of them is a red race car with a lightning bolt, for reasons my kids insisted on.

If you are actually planning a centennial drive, every town links to a free guide page with the real stuff: where to eat, where to sleep, what is worth pulling over for. No signup, works on your phone.

If your favorite stop is missing or wrong, tell me and I will fix the data. That is half the reason I am posting.
