A Moment of Gratitude Toward My Fellow Lesbians

I always went camping with my long time partner. She was a granola can-do lesbian woman who knew how to start a one match fire. And -- she sure knew how to put up a tent!
Me? Not so much! In fact, once the tent came out of the bag, I quickly wandered off to collect firewood. Unfortunately for me, once that partner was gone, I took a friend camping at an all women's campground and *neither one of us had the slightest idea how to erect a tent.* In fact, in my infinite knowledge, I thought we could just skip the tent stakes and concentrate on the flexible poles to raise the thing.
When the campground owner drove up in her pickup truck, she could instantly see we were having trouble and politely asked if we wanted any help. (I think she was hiding her smile behind one hand). Then she drove away to fetch some capable women.
I will never forget that next moment for the rest of my life. Over the ridge they came, strong women, women with hammers and women with tent knowledge! How I wish I had taken a picture! Their bronze arms, their confident walk, their big smiles. OMG . . . it was a sight for sore eyes!
