🕵️ CIA Director John Ratcliffe made an unannounced visit to Moscow on 25 August for meetings with Russian officials, according to U.S. officials cited by multiple news organizations.
Axios said the trip was Ratcliffe’s first to Moscow since taking office in January 2025 and the highest-level Trump-administration visit to Russia since January. Public flight-tracking data showed a U.S. government transport aircraft traveling to the Russian capital.
📰 The visit comes during Russia’s fifth year of war against Ukraine and while U.S.-mediated peace talks remain largely stalled. 🇷🇺 The CIA, Pentagon and Air Force declined comment, and the reported purpose and participants were not publicly disclosed.
The reports confirm unusually senior direct contact but do not establish any agreement or result. Further official statements from Washington or Moscow would be needed to clarify what was discussed and whether the meeting produced an outcome.
