Those of you that are in longterm relationships, do you still travel solo?
Prior to meeting my partner, I traveled solo all over the world since my early 20s. Traveling is my passion, and something that is really important to me. My partner hasn’t traveled much, and has never traveled solo. He is from a country that is very social and family oriented, so people almost never do things by themselves. Like people stare at me when I go to a cafe by myself here haha. I am from a country where people become independent pretty young, so traveling solo isn’t super uncommon. We live together in his country.
He made a comment the other day saying, “I’m not very interested in going to North Macedonia and Kosovo, but I’ll go because I love you.” I told him he didn’t have to go, I was thinking of going during my spring break when he has to work. (I’m a teacher, so I get longer holidays than him). Not going wasn’t an option to him because he says we’re a “team and do everything together.” Of course I want to travel with him, but I told him he doesn’t have to use his vacation time and pay money to go somewhere he’s not very interested in, and I’ll be fine alone. His whole thing is we do everything together, and I love you so I’ll do what you want, but it’s not like I’m proposing going to see a movie he’s not interested in, it would be like a week long trip. I went to Romania solo for 5 days earlier this year, and he wasn’t super thrilled about it, but he was studying for an important exam, and couldn’t take time off to travel. I missed him, but it was also nice to get some of my independence back. I’m reliant on him for a lot of things living in his home country.
So those of you that are in longterm relationships, do you still travel solo, or do you only travel together now? #travel source
