I let my 6 month old scream in his cot while I slept
I feel awful… I woke up tonight hearing my baby screaming and my husband in the nursery after being outside. I ran to the room and my husband asked how I didn’t hear the baby as he could hear him from outside. My baby rarely properly cries and I feel awful that he was screaming for me and I didn’t hear him straight away. I feel like I failed my baby tonight and I’m honestly scared to go back to sleep. I also had 1.5 glasses of wine before bed and I hate to think that made me sleep deeper and stoped me attending to my baby.
Just to clarify my husband wasn’t upset at me at all and reassured me that everyone gets tired and we are a team. I just feel like that was on me as I had the monitor and I’m the one to get up with him at night.
Update: thank you everyone for the kind words. Hearing others stories and experiences helped me realise it’s not uncommon when exhausted for the body to allow you to sleep a little longer. I’m in a situation where my husband has a chronic illness so I am often parenting by myself and looking after my husband so he can rest. My body clearly needed an extra 10 or so minutes of uninterrupted rest while my baby was safe in his cot. ❤️ #relationships source
