23M doing my dream solo road trip from NJ to Utah & Oregon…

23M doing my dream solo road trip from NJ to Utah & Oregon after getting fired. Am I crazy or should I send it?

Hey everyone,

I’m 23M and recently got fired from a job I worked at for 3+ years. In all those years, I never took a single vacation. On the bright side, I managed to save around $10k plus buying my car and is paid off. Before jump-starting my job search and settling back down, I want to finally do my dream cross-country road trip from New Jersey out to Utah and Oregon.
Most of my friends think leaving this suddenly is crazy, but I’ve dreamt about this forever. My furthest solo drive so far has only been to West Virginia, so taking this on solo is definitely going to be a huge jump and a solid personal challenge.
Here is the general plan:

**The Car:** 2019 Dodge Charger GT (V6). Getting a full pre-trip inspection and maintenance check done before leaving this Wednesday.
**Duration:** \~1 month or slightly longer.
**Budget:** $3,000 total out of my $10k savings (leaving $7k for when I get back). Estimated \~$1k+ for gas and tolls alone.
**Lodging:** Mostly car camping and dispersed tent camping (I have prior camping experience), plus staying with family once I reach Utah.
**Post-Trip:** I already have a few job offers lined up for when I return, so I’m confident I can pivot right back into working.

I feel inspired, young, and ready to take advantage of this break while I have no attachments, but I’d love some honest thoughts and advice from experienced road-trippers:

**Budget Check:** Is $3k realistic for \~a month on the road covering gas, food, park passes, and gear in a Charger V6?

**Must-Haves & Safety:** What are the absolute essential safety items or apps I need for solo cross-country driving/camping?
Appreciate any tips, route recommendations, or reality checks. Thanks guys!
