Construction workers: How do you eat enough protein while trying to lose weight

Hi everyone! I’m the wife of a construction worker, and I was hoping to get some advice from people who have experience with physically demanding jobs.
My husband is 6’0”, 243 lbs, and he’s voluntarily trying to lose about 40 pounds. He works long days doing heavy construction on barges, so by the time he gets home, he isn’t thinking about calories, macros, or whether he hit his protein goal for the day.
I’ve always been the one who plans our family’s meals and packs his lunches, so now that we’re both trying to build healthier habits and lose weight, I’m trying to make sure I’m packing the right foods for him.
One thing I’m struggling with is protein. He doesn’t have much time to eat during the workday. He needs foods he can literally grab and eat while working, so things like apples, bananas, and protein shakes work much better than yogurt or foods that require sitting down. For lunch, I usually pack him a large salad with chicken or beef (around 35 to 45 grams of protein), vegetables, and a measured serving of dressing because that’s what he prefers. He says heavier meals make him feel sluggish in the heat. For dinner, I make a large serving of lean meat with potatoes or a small serving of rice.
He’s already losing weight, which is great, but I’m wondering if he’s getting enough protein for someone with such a physically demanding job.
For those of you who work construction or have spouses who do:
How much protein do you aim for each day while losing weight?
What easy, grab-and-go protein foods have worked well on the job?
Did eating more protein make a noticeable difference in your energy, recovery, or ability to maintain muscle while losing weight?
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!
