What was a travel experience you had that made you reevaluate life?
I’ll start.
I was an exchange student in Ireland in college back in 2022. While it’s not the first time I’ve left the country (let alone my home city of NYC), there were some experiences I’ve had over there that made me realize some important Moments things about life. While it was nerve racking going there on my own, I made some friends and found some great travel buddies. Made me feel comfortable traveling with people, whether in Ireland or elsewhere. That was until I went to Scotland for a weekend.
I was supposed to go there with some friends, but I was the only one that bought my ticket before the others cancelled. I was scared, as you could imagine, and that was until I stumbled upon a video by Drew Binsky (great travel YouTuber) who gave the best advice I needed a mere few hours before I jumped on the bus to Dublin airport from my college town in County Kildare. And these two words changed my life.
JUST GO!
So I went, and discovered the joy of solo travel, and then amazing joy of just going. Needless to say, it was a great weekend in one of my favorite places on earth.
And that weekend made me realize that life is too short, and that the best experiences you have in life are the ones where you decide to just do something, even if it’s just a bit uncomfortable, especially travel. Unsure about something? Just go anyway. Give it a chance. The worst thing that could happen is you don’t like it, and you can always buy a return ticket home. But you’ll never know how you’ll feel unless you try something. Of course, that advice can be applied anywhere, but traveling is a great way to discover some of life’s meanings, even if it means reevaluating some things. I now live my life by those two words, beyond just traveling, and I’m thankful I learned that lesson in Scotland. #travel source
