⚾ Justin Verlander made the final regular-season start of his 21-year Major League Baseball career for the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, pitching 5⅓ innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Comerica Park.
The 43-year-old allowed two runs on five hits, walked one and struck out six. His daughter Genevieve joined him on the mound before manager A.J. Hinch removed him in the sixth inning.
Verlander left to a standing ovation holding his daughter's hand. He finished with a 266–159 record, a 3.33 ERA and 3,560 strikeouts, eighth on the career list.
🏆 His career included three Cy Young Awards, the 2011 American League MVP award, 10 All-Star selections and World Series titles with the Houston Astros in 2017 and 2022.
The final outing followed a 2026 season limited by hip inflammation and a hamstring strain. Verlander had said he wanted one last competitive start rather than a brief ceremonial appearance.
