tips to start eating healthy

im in a weird phase/transition in life right now. Im starting school & i just got a job that i plan to stay at long term (i have a bad job hopping habit), i also lost a lot of people in my life. but ultimately, i want to take this journey to focus on myself and become healthy, mentally & physically.

i dont think i would be considered “unhealthy looking”. i have a good physique in terms of attractiveness but i still feel too big for my height (135-140lbs 5’1) and i would feel much more confident in my body if i was toned and i had my dream body. Im starting to workout consistently at home doing mat pilates, before i gain enough confidence to start at the gym again. i enjoyed the gym when i went but as of right now, it’s expensive & it’s hard for me to stay consistent to getting ready and driving there and doing that for at least 4-5 days. so i think that if i start at home it’ll be easier.

beside this, i don’t have healthy eating habits. it’s probably the worst part about me. i associate unhealthy food (fast food & dessert) with positive thoughts. i know it sounds weird but it’s a personal thing and it’s come from patterns in my childhood & teenage years. i want to change this because i feel the impacts on my body, confidence, and especially my wallet lol.

i like to cook but i don’t know that i have the motivation and ability to be consistent with cooking healthy meals at home right now. i also still live with my parents which makes it a bit more difficult when they cook dinner for the family which can be rather not the most healthy meals at times. this is not their fault, they have full time jobs and not too much money at the moment. my moms side of the family is also obese.

how do people who have healthy diets suggest beginning to make healthy eating habits? What kinds of food & meals should i focus on that can be easy for starting out to keep a consistent healthy diet? I’m open to any suggestions please. my biggest goal at the moment is becoming a better & healthier person. i also suffer from bipolar disorder and bpd which makes consistency a very hard thing to achieve in multiple areas of my life. but i need something to start with that seems achievable and from there, i can work on being even more healthier once i build up the consistency parts. it would also help to feel the impacts of a healthy diet and workout to motivate myself to becoming better.
