School year schedules should all follow the balanced calendar
The current school schedule for most places of like 3 1-week breaks during the year and a 2 1/2 month summer break is far inferior to this other system. The balanced calendar has a schedule of a 5-week summer break and 3 multiple week breaks during school.
Firstly, there is a concept called summer learning loss where the long summer breaks results in students losing a lot of knowledge from the previous school year that requires time to teach them again, typically about a month. This system would decrease that and make education more efficient.
Secondly, i feel like the 2 1/2 month summer breaks makes school less liked by students because they get used to no school, but then have to suddenly go back, which would greatly decrease their mood and opinion about school.
Thirdly, having this schedule would make travel during the school year much more accessible. I went to an elementary school with this calendar and I was able to go meet my relatives in Asia (I am in the USA). It takes around 24 hours in combined flights and along with the time zone difference, it makes it so there’s no point in going if it’s for less than 2 weeks.
