Video Game remasters and older games dont need graphical updates and it taints the art.
When given the option I will almost always choose to play the original of something versus a remaster or remake. Im not a stickler for the hardware. Emulators are totally valid. I just think when you truly care to experience something you wanna see the original thats actually talked about versus the remaster which due to the way remasters are treated in the industry is just a lower budget way to sell people on something that was already made and already successful.
Even the remasters I do play I only LIKE them because I had played the original. I enjoy the Oblivion remaster. But only because I played the hell out of the original. If I had never heard of Oblivion id wanna play the original to know what it was really like.
Even if I dont particularly have a good experience I probably just wont even try the remaster. Halo Anniversary Edition Id never play with the new graphics. The game wasnt designed for them the older Early 2000s graphics are smoother and look better because the whole damn game was designed around it.
Im playing Warcraft Reforged. I only ever play with the original graphics. I think older games had to work with limitations and never benefit or are made better by remaking the exact same game with an entirely different type of artstyle/direction
If you have access to the original 1977 edition of Star Wars are you gonna choose to watch that or are you gonna watch latest edited version? I know what id pick. Part of seeking out any older media is learning the context of its existence.
Warcraft 3 had a really well done main story, that had very charming voice acting and preformance for an OG RTS game with (for its time) beautiful cinematics. And it was ALL to make up for the fact every character in the game looks like they were sculpted out of modeling clay. The new graphics reduce it to a very generic fantasy look. Meanwhile the talking clay men in the original just has so much more charm.
I dont really get excited for remasters unless its genuinely hard to obtain but even then I feel a sense of loss if its art and graphics are updated with no way to restore them. The worst part is the companies will actively try to remove your access to those older games in any way they can so that your forced to get the new one if you really want to play it #conversation
