I need bar small talk advice.
I've (32m) recently started going to a local dive bar near me to socialize instead of sitting home alone all the time. But I'm terrible at small talk and am super shy until I get to know people. I've been going long enough that some of the regulars have attempted to engage with me, but I inadvertently give short answers and kill the conversation. Like the other night, one asked me if I lived nearby, and I responded, "Yeah, I live over off \*street name\*, how about yall?"
And they replied " yeah we live over on \*street name\* "
And I was like "oh cool." And couldn't think of any follow up questions that seemed relevant, so it was super awkward and I just went back to watching the TV behind the bar.
How can I improve?
