Bayezid I when 15 European nations show up thinking it’s an easy win
Crusaders: "We have 100,000 men, heavy French knights, and 15 nations. What could possibly go wrong?"
Bayezid I: "And I took that personally."
In 1396, Europe assembled the ultimate All-Star Crusader team to kick the Ottomans out of the Balkans. French knights were so overconfident they reportedly said, "If the sky were to fall, we would uphold it on the points of our lances."
Then they charged up a hill at Nicopolis without scouting, ran directly into hidden wooden stakes, got dismounted, and realized Bayezid’s main force was waiting at the top. Absolute disaster.
