How do you actually “vet” originality in design without killing creativity?
I’ve been thinking a lot about how we judge originality in design lately, especially with so many trends recycling across platforms. As a graphic designer, I want to stay inspired by what’s out there, but I also don’t want my work to feel like a remix of someone else’s idea with slightly different colors. At the same time, the idea of “vetting” every concept for uniqueness feels exhausting and honestly kind of stifling. So where do you personally draw the line between inspiration and imitation? Do you have a process for checking your work against existing designs, or do you rely more on instinct and your own voice? I’m curious how others balance staying plugged into the design community without accidentally blending into it. How do you keep your work feeling authentic while still evolving with trends? #art source
