🚢 At least seven people died after a ferry travelling from Kyrenia in northern Cyprus to Taşucu, Turkey, capsized on 30 August, authorities said.
The catamaran had nearly 270 passengers and crew aboard. Authorities said 237 people were rescued and 23 remained unaccounted for as the search continued.
The vessel began taking on water about 7.5 kilometres offshore and later sank in water reported to be about 514 metres deep. Officials said that depth could complicate efforts to reach anyone inside.
The route is one of several daily ferry links between northern Cyprus and Turkey, making the disaster a major disruption to a routine cross-border connection. The cause, injury total and final toll were still unknown. 🙏
