We have a road trip planned from Calgary to Vancouver in mid-October. My algorithm must have clued in that I have a huge fear of my children being eaten by bears because it has fed me nightmare fuel for a week now.
As a couple from Ontario, we are experienced campers and hikers, and have been hiking in BC in the past. But we have only taken our kids on light hikes in highly populated areas close to home where the chance of a bear encounter would be incredibly unlikely. With kids, we have no expectations on what our hikes will look like compared to the distances we’re able to travel on our own. But we do have carriers for both kids and think we’ll be able to make some decent ground once the toddler gets tired.
We have a 3 year old and a baby. I am terrified that my kid is going to walk a bit ahead of us and will be snatched up by a bear. I realize this is wild, but fear is what it is. Knowing that bears are more active in the fall, what are the chances of this happening and what can we do to prevent it? Lol. But for real. #activity #hiking source
