My kid says she is a therian
My 10 yr old daughter saw some YouTube shorts at her Dad’s house about Therians. She isn’t allowed to watch YouTube unsupervised at my house but who knows if he is paying attention to what she sees at his house.
Since then she has come home from school and started wearing various masks/paws/tails from previous Halloween or playtime outfits.
She’s always had a very active imagination and has always ran around acting like animals, among other make believe characters. Shes an only child with a very big imagination that’s always found creative ways to entertain herself.
But tonight I noticed she was wearing these “costumes” for hours on end and wanting to wear them outside and even to bed so I asked her what was up with that. That’s when she told me about seeing the videos of Therians and how she wanted to be one of them. She showed me a video where these teenagers were dressed up like animals on all fours running around outside growling and pouncing around. The video was saying how they were part of an understanding community of people that spiritually and physically relate as an animal.
I told her I love her imagination and that there is absolutely no reason why she can’t continue playing at home pretending and being a kid. But she cried and said she didn’t want to just be a kid but she wanted to be one of them.. a Therian.
I’m at a loss as to what to say. Or do.
I’m sorry but it’s super weird to me and I don’t really get it. I don’t want to hurt her feelings or shut her down but I also don’t want my kid running around thinking they are an animal and walking around on all fours growling and shit.
