The drivers in your city are not the worst. Neither are the drivers in that city you visited.
They are just fun stories to tell.
Sure, drivers may be a different from place to place, but they aren't nearly as different as people's stories -- which make Boston/Dallas/LA drivers sound like they are a different species.
Most differences in traffic accident rates from place to place have to do with the different mix of roads -- NYC and Boston have fewer fatalities because their roads force low speeds, and so on.
