Working on a snap-fit customizable bag tag. What tolerances/clearances do you usually use for press-fit letters across different filaments? 🤔
Hi everyone,
I’ve been working on a customizable keychain / bag tag design with a flexible snap strap and press-fit name inserts (no AMS required).
In the video, you can see how the assembly works: the letters slide/press into the slot, and the strap loops around and snaps in place.
Right now, I’m trying to dial in the best universal tolerances for the letter cutouts so it’s easy to assemble by hand while staying secure without requiring glue.
A few questions for those who design multi-part/press-fit models:
1. **Clearance:** What XY offset/tolerance do you typically use for a reliable friction fit across different printers (e.g., 0.15mm vs 0.20mm vs 0.25mm)? 2. **Filament shrinkage:** Have you noticed significant variations between standard PLA, matte PLA, or PETG for small letter inserts like these? 3. **Retention:** Would you prefer a slightly looser fit intended for a drop of CA glue, or a pure interference/snap fit?
