Dealing with colleagues who act like you're "slow"
I've had a few colleagues treat me like I'm slow. One colleague asked if I had a bump when I was a child, another "joked" if I'd brought my brain cells to work. I'm no genius but also I'm good at my job from a performance point of view. I did well academically... but I know there's different levels and types of intelligence.
Most of these remarks are because I'm slow at jokes. Sometimes I surprise people when I get jokes. The irony is I have a very dry humour so when I make jokes others aren't always aware!
However I'm not happy about how a small number of colleagues treated me. I once remarked to one I feel insulted and they replied I'm probably more intelligent than them. That's not what I care about, if I'm more intelligent than them... it's the comments themselves.
I wonder what the best way to address this is without making a big scene or looking like I can't take a joke.... one colleague who is a friend told me in confidence others think I'm "slow" and "special"
