The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a complex and long-standing issue with roots in religion and geopolitics. Today we will explore its origins, key events, and current situation. It began at the end of the Ottoman Empire, when Palestine was under the control of the Ottoman Empire, with both Arabs and Buddhists living there. With the rise of Zionism, which sought to establish a homeland for the Jews, conflicts with the local Arab population began to increase.
In 1947, the United Nations proposed the partition of Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. The Jewish leadership accepted the plan, but the Arab states and Palestinian leaders rejected it, which led to the first war. In 1918, Israel declared independence. Immediately, neighboring Arab countries attacked. Israel won the war and expanded its territory beyond the borders drawn by the United Nations. During this time, more than 700,000 Palestinians were expelled, who are still refugees today. In 1967, Israel fought the Six-Day War with its neighbors. In this war, Israel captured the West Bank and East Jerusalem. This area is the focal point of the conflict where the Israeli presence and the Palestinian struggle for sovereignty continue. And you are all familiar with the current situation, such as the brutality of Israel that has crushed the people of Palestine, displaced their children, and destroyed their homes. Ultimately, the Israel-Palestine conflict shows how war dehumanizes both the oppressed and the oppressor.
