I cant figure out if anyone actually likes Macklemore's "music"
Can anyone tell me? I recognize i may not be able to find unbiased opinions in this space. I had the misfortune of being in Seattle when "Thrift Shop" came out. It was kinda funny the first time i heard him rhyme "keyboard" with "kneeboard," and then it quickly became annoying. I didnt discover the rest of his painfully earnest, socially performative, "self-aware white rapper" catalog until later when it was foisted upon me by some roommates in sober living (of course). The flow isnt anything impressive. Its formulaic, boring, and not terribly catchy. Sonically inert. The equivalent of a warm vanilla milkshake from mcdonalds thats been sitting in a cup holder for an hour. I recognize that people have different tastes but this one stumps me. Do people actually enjoy the music or is he selling something else? What is it?
