🇷🇺 Russia has withdrawn Andrey Kelin from his post as ambassador to the United Kingdom, leaving the embassy in London headed by chargé d'affaires Vasily A. Tsyganov. No replacement has been announced.
Kelin left Britain in July after about seven years as ambassador. He had joined the Soviet diplomatic service in 1979 and previously served as Russia's representative to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
📰 The move comes after the Russian embassy warned Britain of “consequences” over reports that British-made attack drones had been used by Ukrainian forces against targets in Russia. 🇺🇦
A chargé d'affaires can provisionally lead a mission when an ambassadorial post is vacant under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The vacancy therefore does not close the embassy, but it leaves unclear whether Moscow will restore ambassador-level representation. 🤝
