I just went up in my low clearance, unfinished attic (just insulation up there) to inspect a couple old water marks that are on my bedroom ceiling which my wife thought were getting larger. That doesn't seem to be a problem - I found zero evidence of moisture leaking through, but while I was up there I noticed some black coloration on the wood underneath the roof as well as some very small and fine gray fuzzy stuff. We bought this house 4 years ago and the inspector told us there was evidence of mold remediation in the attic (that white encapsulation paint), but that it looked fine. We also had baffles put in to increase ventilation as well as blown insulation. The gray fuzzy stuff *could* just be dust from that. Anyways, I took a picture of one area that looked fine and then another that concerned me. Can someone take a look and tell me if it looks like the mold is coming back despite the remediation?
After doing a little googling, I plan on going back up to check these things:
Wood damp to the touch? (I didn't touch anything without gloves)
Musty smell? (I have a cold and couldn't smell anything)
Bathroom venting or leaking straight into attic?
The only evidence of moisture I saw was that the ends of some of the nails were wet, but not enough to drip, as well as a little bit of condensation at the end walls of the house on some plastic where there was a rectangular cutout in the plywood. #home source
