Why starting with senior-friendly design benefits everyone
Here's something I've noticed after working on several projects - when you prioritize older adults in your design process, you end up creating something that works well for literally everyone.
Think about it: designing for seniors means you're automatically building in proper accessibility features. You're steering clear of manipulative UI patterns that try to trick people. You're not falling into those psychological traps or chasing whatever fleeting trend is popular this month.
Instead, you focus on cutting through the clutter and being straightforward about what your product does. You give people actual control over their experience rather than forcing them down some predetermined path.
Plus, you can't legally target kids under 14 anyway, and everyone gets older eventually. Aging happens to all of us - it's not some distant concept.
What's interesting is that younger users are becoming way more aware of digital wellness and taking care of themselves online. They actually appreciate when things are designed thoughtfully instead of being designed to be addictive.
So yeah, when you build digital experiences with older users as your starting point, you naturally create something that serves everyone better. It's become my go-to approach. #art source
