Is 12 years old a window into what the teen years will be like?
Is 12 years old a window into what the teen years will be like, or is this just a sweet spot before everything falls apart? 😅
My son is a bit of an early bloomer and started puberty around 10. Ages 9 to early 11 were **rough**. The emotional intensity, the arguments, the boundary testing, the IRRITABILITY and irrational anger all the time… it was so intense and so hard to get through. But now, he has grown up so much and is genuinely just… such a cool kid. He’s smart, hilarious, and much more emotionally intelligent. And still likes hugs (though he’d never admit it, lol). He’s becoming so much more thoughtful and mature, and it’s been really great to feel like we are reaping the rewards of those harder years.
The thing that makes me the most happy right now is how much he still enjoys spending time talking with us parents. He hates when we’re too busy to chat, told me he missed my company when I went away for a few days to visit my grandma, and always wants to tell us every story about what happened when he’s been out with friends or family.
This stage has been so much fun, and I’m trying to soak up every minute of it. But I do keep wondering, is this a glimpse of who he’ll be as a teenager, or are the bigger teenage hormones still waiting around the corner? After how hard those early puberty years were, I feel a little traumatized and really hope we never go back to that level of difficulty. 🙃
For those of you with older teens or adult kids, was 12 a good predictor of what was to come? #relationships source
