Downtown Parking Lot Drama

I went to an economic forum in Downtown Denver at the University Club of Denver in early June, hosted by one of the financial institutions I do business with.

For convenience, I decided to park in a nearby parking lot at 1115 Acoma Street. I parked, paid, and walk over to the economic forum. Fortunately, I took a screenshot of the parking receipt for reimbursement later.

I was surprised to receive a letter a few weeks later demanding that I pay a fine for "violating the rules of the parking lot". I responded by sending the screenshot of the receipt as proof that I paid. A few weeks later, I received a letter from Daniel B Kelley. Once again, I'm sending the screenshot of the receipt as proof that I paid.

I'm sharing this to warn folks not to park in this parking lot. I'm sure some people pay the fine out of fear and it appears to me to be a highly questionable, even unethical, business practice.

I'm also sharing because companies that engage in business in this way are probably not a good look for our city or for encouraging folks to come to our struggling downtown. I already submitted a complaint with the City of Denver and want to encourage others to do the same if they run into this issue. The City of Denver should absolutely do what it can to protect consumers and hold bad actors accountable.
