A G4 strong geomagnetic occurred today… & exactly one year ago to this day!
It is March 24, 2024 an earth is experiencing a G4 strong geomagnetic storm. A year ago to this date we also had a strong G for a geomagnetic storm (on March 24, 2023)! Coincidence? A little bit. But not fully surprising:
A) we are nearing solar max of solar cycle 25 and solar activity will continue to increase
B) march is a prime time for geomagnetic activity as the equinoxes cause phenomenon known as equinox cracks due to the Russell-McPherron effect: fissures will form in earths magnetosphere allowing more impact from the solar environment
Even more interesting: A full halo CME launched on March 23 may not have fully arrived yet and we may see even stronger geomagnetic conditions as the night goes on!
