My great-great-grandfather Henry Bolton, merchant seaman…

My great-great-grandfather Henry Bolton, merchant seaman, Liverpool — sometime between 1883-1893. Records show he crossed the Atlantic on Cunard's RMS Etruria and sailed as far as Constantinople and the Black Sea

Found his original Board of Trade discharge certificates going back through family papers — 47 of them, across 16 ships, from 1883 to 1893. He started as a "Boy" at 20, was Able Seaman within months, and spent nearly a decade almost constantly at sea: Baltimore and Montreal runs, a stretch of "Foreign trade" voyages to Antwerp, Constantinople and Galati on the Black Sea, and finally several years as crew on the Cunard liner Etruria between Liverpool and New York. Born 1862, died 1940.
