Camp Problems- how to help my 11 yo son deal with a bully.
My son (11yo) has been attending an outdoor camp since he was about 6 years old and has known most of the other kids who are attending since then. Occasionally there have been new kids and they are accepted by all. This year there seems to be a separation amongst the boys between the “athletic kids” and “non athletic kids”. My son hangs around mostly with the kids that are considered non athletic although he plays multiple sports. This delineation is a grouping that the kids themselves put each other in.
So onto the issue- there is a kid in the athletic group who he has know for a couple years and never had an issue with that is suddenly targeting him to gain favor it seems. He trips him and says he can’t joint the athletic kids in games they are playing, and says mean things to him. My son typically just ignores him and asks the other kids all of whom he gets along with if he can’t joint join and they say yes. The issue seems to be with just this one kid. I know he has to deal with this conflict on his own but I am trying to find ways to help him using his words to get this kid to stop. My son is a sweet kid who wants to get along with everyone and is very non confrontational - which is the opposite of how my husband and I are. Any advice on how to handle this situation? Words to help guide him to get this kid to stop? #relationships source
