🚴 Tadej Pogačar is awaiting collarbone surgery after a crash forced him out of the Vuelta a España while he was leading the race.
His team said he sustained a concussion, a displaced fracture of the left clavicle, a stable C7 cervical fracture and abrasions. It said there were no other major injuries or neurological effects. 🏥
The Slovenian rider had held a 3-minute-50-second lead after stage eight and was attempting to win the Vuelta for the first time, which would have completed victories in all three Grand Tours.
Pogačar’s withdrawal changes the general-classification race and leaves his late-September defence of the road-race world title uncertain. His team had not announced a return timetable.
