Many, many years ago, the robber Lippold terrorized the Leine and Glenetal valleys with terrible deeds. His former dwelling place, the Lippold's Cave, is today a popular destination for young and old. Parts of the cave can be visited. For this, however, you should have a flashlight in your luggage. The high redoubt Large-scale early medieval fortification, three ramparts, several ditches, tower ruins in the western cross rampart. Unfortunately, deep in the forest, only the former tower is still visible to the non-archaeologist. The Irmen Column According to the belief of our ancestors, the Irminsul was the largest sanctuary and is also known as the World Column. It was a mighty tree trunk, which was intended as a support for the universe and was placed in a sacred place on a mountain height, at a spring or in a grove. My home village is one of three possible locations where it is said to have stood. It was overthrown in 772 AD by Charlemagne at the start of the Saxon Wars. The local history society of my village rebuilt a modified form of the Irminsul in 1996.
