⚓ The USS Benfold, a U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer, was towed to Subic Bay in the Philippines after losing power and propulsion in the South China Sea in late July, according to reports published August 17.
The reported generator-related engineering casualty left the crew without galley services, toilets and air conditioning for four days. The U.S. 7th Fleet said no crew injuries were reported.
🔧 USS Robert Smalls delivered cooked meals to Benfold during the outage. The incident temporarily removed a destroyer from normal operations while it was sailing with the George Washington Carrier Strike Group.
🌊 Reports place the initial power loss on July 24 and the tow on July 28; power was reportedly restored afterward, and repairs were reported complete by August 8. The cause of the casualty remains under investigation.
